No-Fault
Auto insurance coverage which pays for each driver’s own injuries, despite who was responsible for the accident. No-fault coverage varies with each state.

Deductible
The part of the insured's expenses or loss that must be paid before insurance coverage begins.

Major Medical Insurance
A type of health insurance that provides benefits for most types of medical expenses incurred up to a high limit, subject to a large deductible.

Participating Provider
A provider who has contracted with a health care service contractor, HMO, PPO, IPA or other managed care organization to provide health care.

Term Insurance
Life insurance that covers the policyholder for a specific period of time, the “term” specified in the policy. It pays a benefit to a beneficiary only if the insured dies within that specified period of time. Term life policies are renewable.

Policyholder
Literally, the person who has possession of the policy.

Health Maintenance Organization
A legal entity in the state that provides health care in a geographic area, and which accepts responsibility to provide directly or by contract an agreed-upon set of health services to a defined, voluntarily-enrolled group of individuals.

Quote
An estimate of the premium charge, based upon the information provided for the coverage(s) requested. This quote may not be the final or actual premium, and the premium charged is subject to underwriting adjustments by the insurer.

Renters Insurance
A form of insurance that covers a renter’s posessions against perils such as fire, theft, windstorm, explosion, vandalism, and others. It also provides personal liability coverage for damage the renter or family members cause to other people in addition to other things that standard homeowners policies cover.

Open Enrollment
A period of time when eligible subscribers may enroll in, or transfer between available programs providing health care coverage.
